
Ann-Marie MacDonald
Ann-Marie is an actor, playwright, librettist and novelist. She is the author of Fall on Your Knees, The Way the Crow Flies and Adult Onset. She has written plays, including Bell Moral: A Natural History and Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), the libretto for chamber opera Nigredo Hotel, and book and lyrics for the musical Anything That Moves. Her scripts are produced across Canada and internationally, and her published work is translated into 17 languages. Ann-Marie has been honoured with multiple awards, including The Chalmers, Gemini, Dora Mavor Moore, Governor General’s, the Gascon-Thomas, ACTRA’s John Drainie, The Canadian Authors’ Association and the Commonwealth Prize, and her novel, Fall On Your Knees, was an Oprah’s Book Club pick. In 2019, Ann-Marie was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of her contribution to the arts and LGBTQ2SI+ activism. Her new novel, FAYNE, will be published this fall by Knopf Canada. Ann-Marie is a graduate of the Acting Program of the National Theatre School of Canada. She is married to director Alisa Palmer, with whom she has two brilliant daughters. Ann-Marie has a deep personal connection to the Stratford area and is honoured to be working on this beautiful, sacred land, which continues to be cared for and inhabited by First Nations people.
